Bernabé Navarro

Rafael Bernabe and Olga Navarro dispose of their finca Balaguer, which belongs to the D.O. Alicante has over 40 hectares of its own vines, much of them 40-50 year old Monastrell vines. Furthermore, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown and some experimental plots of Malbec, Graciano and Garnacha Tintorera. The vineyards are at 550-600 meters altitude, the vines grow on up to ten different soil types.
The newly built bodega is designed for 250,000 bottles, but today only about 30,000 bottles are produced per year. The tiny production volume allows a strict orientation to the quality - and outstanding quality and individuality is also the most important feature of the wines Beryna, Beryna Seleccion and the sweet wine Parque Natural by Bernabe Navarro. Apart from the high-priced El Nido wines in Jumilla, no one in southern Spain today makes such fine wines from the Monastrell grape varieties as Rafael Bernabé and Olga Navarro. Let's hope that both of them continue to follow their idealistic maxim and do not sacrifice the high-class qualities to the crowd.
